The Trustees of the NYSARC Trust provided a remainder fund grant of $12,500 per chapter in 2016 to provide recreational opportunities for people they support. Through this grant, Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara was able to engage individuals in recreational activities in and around the area. In addition to going to the movies and dining out at various local restaurants, the individuals also attended musical and theatrical performances at the Shea’s, Riviera and Palace Theaters, visited Fantasy Island and Darien Lake theme parks, attended Bison Baseball games and Niagara University basketball games, participated in a boat cruise along the Erie Canal and rode on the Maid of the Mist boat, and participated in an escape room experience.
The NYSARC Trust also provided remainder fund grants totaling $1,466,000 to support NYSARC guardianship programs across the state. A total of $1,874,000 in remainder grants were awarded in 2016 to support recreation and guardianship programs statewide.
