Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara, the Niagara County chapter of NYSARC, Inc., received a vital $5,000 Niagara County Community Arts DEC grant from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature; administered by Arts Services Initiative of Western New York to support hands-on educational workshops designed to expand the scope of fine arts programming offered to people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities through visual, music and theater arts. The workshops which will begin in mid- 2014, will also be open to the community. Dates and locations will be posted at www.opportunitiesunlimited.org.
This project’s main goals include integrating individuals with developmental disabilities with their community, increasing the number of workshop participants, introducing theater as a new artistic medium to our workshop participants and creating a visual link to music and theater through art-making.
